Detecting sound wave of bubbles produced in a boiling liquid

چکیده

This experiment attempted to detect the sound wave produced by bubbles in boiling water and liquid nitrogen as an application for LUX, large underground xenon, which is expected to detect weakly interacting massive particles, WIMPs. Currently, there are still several steps needed to be done in order to detect the bubble waveform. Before proceeding any further, it is necessary to change the current setup by using a device that will boil water without producing noise and that will release one bubble at a time. In this way, it will be easier to identify a bubble’s waveform on the oscilloscope. Also, a microphone more sensitive than the piezo crystals may be needed to detect bubbles produced from a boiling liquid. Otherwise, a smaller vessel may help increase the piezo microphones’ sensitivity to the changes within the vessel. Once an appropriate microphone has been found that will detect bubbles from boiling water, liquid nitrogen should be used to better emulate the conditions found in LUX.

A method for detecting bubbles in two-phase gas-liquid flow

Detecting bubble in two-phase flow has been a basic issue in two-phase flow systems. A new method for measuring the frequency of bubble formation is presented in this paper. For this purpose, an electronic device was designed and constructed which works based on a change in intensity of laser beam. For this purpose, continues light beam is embedded just above the needle, which is received by a ...

Sound Wave Propagation in Viscous Liquid-Filled Non-Rigid Carbon Nanotube with Finite Length

In this paper, numerical results obtained and explained from an exact formula in relation to sound pressure load due to the presence of liquid inside the finite-length non-rigid carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which is coupled with the dynamic equations of motion for the CNT. To demonstrate the accuracy of this work, the obtained formula has been compared to what has been used by other research...

Ultrasonic atomization of liquids in drop-chain acoustic fountains.

When focused ultrasound waves of moderate intensity in liquid encounter an air interface, a chain of drops emerges from the liquid surface to form what is known as a drop-chain fountain. Atomization, or the emission of micro-droplets, occurs when the acoustic intensity exceeds a liquid-dependent threshold. While the cavitation-wave hypothesis, which states that atomization arises from a combina...

Effects of Dissolved Air on Subcooled Flow Boiling of a Dielectric Coolant in a Microchannel Heat Sink

The effects of dissolved air in the dielectric liquid FC-77 on flow boiling in a microchan-nel heat sink containing ten parallel channels, each 500 ␮m wide and 2.5 mm deep, were experimentally investigated. Experiments were conducted before and after degas-sing, at three flow rates in the range of 30– 50 ml/ min. The dissolved air resulted in a significant reduction in wall temperature at which...

Effect of Liquid-Vapor Phase Distribution on the Heat Transfer Mechanisms during Flow Boiling in Minichannels and Microchannels

Heat transfer during flow boiling in minichannels and microchannels is intimately linked to the liquid-vapor phase distribution in the channels. The vapor phase exists as nucleating bubbles, dispersed bubbles, elongated bubbles, an annular core, or all vapor flow completely filling the channel. Similarly, the liquid can exist as bulk liquid, slugs, thin film on the heated wall, or dispersed dro...
